Master’s in Education (M2) – Research in Education and Training (REF)

Overview

The Research in Education and Training (REF) specialization of the Master’s in Education is primarily geared at preparing students to enter the world of research in education and training. It is the second component of the M1 REF program (hybrid format or in-person delivery). However, as with all master’s programs, candidates can apply directly to the second year of the REF program (students with an M1 or those who have used the VAE 85 Recognition of Prior Learning process).

Students with an M1 in other specialties may also apply for the M2 in REF.

This specialization gives students the skills required to pursue a doctoral program and comprehensively provides them with high-level multidisciplinary training in education.

Over the two years of the master’s program, students will :

  • familiarize themselves with approaches used in many disciplines;
  • acquire critical understanding and knowledge of major topics and publications in education, both in France and abroad;
  • learn about research processes by acquiring a range of methodologies;
  • write an original thesis on a specific aspect of education or training.

Objectives

 The Research in Education and Training specialization is open to students who desire to broaden their understanding of the field of education through research. The aim of the program is to have students specialize in education research with the view that they pursue a doctoral program. Students will have acquired the skills necessary to create and execute a research project in education (evaluating the research context, determining the objectives, carrying out qualitative and quantitative research, working in groups and engaging in scientific writing).
